Hear the Instruction of a Father
In the Bible, the words instruction and chastening are both from the Hebrew word mûsār. Proverbs 3:11-12 lets us know that we should “despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.” Just as a father corrects his son, our heavenly father corrects us and that shows us His love for us. Correction is not a punishment in God’s eyes, but it is a teaching moment. Proverbs 4:1 says, “Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.” A good father will teach their children understanding even if it involves chastisement, or correction. When we receive chastening, correction, and instruction, we are able to know understanding. Instruction is important to obtain if you’re going to be what God wants you to be. |
