Fact #19: The Trichotomy of Man
Man is made up of Spirit, Soul, and Body
| There are three components that make up man, Spirit, Soul, and Body, which is called the Trichotomy of Man. Our flesh or body is the Hebrew word Basar. The word Basar is God’s picture of the “House of a Prince.” Our body should be the place where Jesus can live and dwell. Our Soul is the Hebrew word Nephesh which is the picture of “the action of the mouth and teeth.” Your soul is where the seat of your affections are and speaks of your desires, your wants. We have to make our Soul do what the Spirit of God says and not what we want. The Spirit is from the Hebrew word Ruach. This is a picture of a man’s head, and the Spirit of God gets joined to our head (Spirit) and He leads us. All three parts of the trichotomy of man can be preserved blameless until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thess. 5:23). |
