Study Tip #9: Find The Real Life Application

When we study the word of God, we’re not doing it to impress man (2 Tim. 2:15-16) or even to just intake information for ourselves or others. The application of the word of God is the purpose of His word! The Word is meant to transform our lives so we should study with the goal of application!

Do It

James 1:21-15 makes it clear that we are not meant to not only be hearers but doers of the word also! This means that as we study, and as we learn, we should be applying what we’ve received in our own everyday lives!

What would it profit you to receive step by step information on how to become a millionaire if you don’t implement what you’ve been told? More importantly, we should never just receive God’s word and set it aside. It’s too important for now and eternity! The Word is a guide for the situations in our lives and, above all, it is imperative for salvation!

Measure Up

As we study and pray, we should use the Bible as our measuring stick to see where we are! We should ask God, “Is there anywhere in my life where there’s more work for me to do to be able to measure up to how you’re saying I should be, act, talk, walk, and even believe according to Your word?”

Again, we aren’t studying just to store the information in our hearts—though that is something we should do (Psa. 119:11). We have to make sure that we are looking for ways to apply what we now know.

It Covers That Too!

Whether you want to be a better spouse, parent, child, or employee—the Bible provides instruction for it all! When choosing a topic to study, focus on gaining understanding that leads to action. Let the Word sink into your life, not just your mind. There is no thought too small or situation too big that can’t be found in the word of God.

Remember, we study God’s Word to live by it! Apply what you learn, and watch how God transforms your life.
