The Year of Studying: Break It Down

In order to receive the nutrients you need from food, you can’t swallow it whole but you have to break it down further and further until it is digestible. The more you break it down, the more you benefit from it and the same can be said about the Word of God! When we study the Word we have to break it down! It is time to commit ourselves to gaining an understanding and getting into the details! Watch this powerful class today.

The Details Matter

Remember, everything in the Bible is important. Matthew 5:18 reminds us that every “jot and tittle” matters—even the smallest marks and seemingly insignificant words carry meaning and purpose! So when we talk about breaking down Scripture, we mean all of it—not just the parts we personally find interesting or easy to understand.

The Need For Understanding

Understanding speaks of dividing it up, or breaking it down, more and more. Breaking down the Word of God is all about gaining an understanding so that we’re able to live by it! There are things in the Bible that God commands us to do and as we know it is the duty of man to keep His commandments (Ecc. 12:13) but what happens when you don’t understand what you’re being commanded to do?

In school, if you are given an assignment it is crucial that you understand the instructions so that you’re able to complete the assignment accurately. If you don’t have the full understanding, you could skip steps, misinform a classmate on what the requirement is, and ultimately miss the end goal that you wanted to achieve. In life, it is our mission to live according to His Word—that means asking questions and getting into the details of the matter. As we break down the Word, we know that there are tools for studying which help us a lot. However, don’t forget that you have access to the instructor!
