The Church in Sardis
The Church in Sardis
The fifth church that John wrote about is the Church in Sardis (Rev. 3:1-6). This church made a name for themselves but God knew where they actually were at: they were spiritually dead, their works weren’t perfect, and the things they had were almost dead. They needed to be made alive! How? They needed to be watchful, strengthen the things that remained, remember how they had received and heard, hold fast, and repent.
Though Sardis had a few people who were right (who were given a promise by God), God gave the church overall (and God gives us) a chance to REPENT before He erases their names out of the book of life! Jesus told Sardis (and every church), “He that hath an ear let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches.” No matter where you find yourself, HEAR the Word of the Lord! If you’re spiritually dead, His word can bring your spirit and soul back to life!
