What Is Fasting?
| What is Fasting? The Hebrew word for Fasting is “tsuwm צוּם” which literally means to cover the mouth and to abstain from food. Fasting refers to no food or drink entering into your mouth. A Biblical fast is not just about eliminating meat, but for a period of time you eliminate what you drink and eat. Let’s consider the word breakfast; it is the first thing that you eat when you wake up and it implies that you break your fast from your sleep. Though you should deny yourself, sacrifice, or give up a variety of things, if you’re going to call your fast a Biblical fast, you cannot eat or drink anything. Fasting has a lot of benefits if done the correct way, but fasting in scripture consists of not eating or drinking at all for a period of time. |
